There was a round of applause at the International Culture and Event Center in Akure at the announcement of the presence of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, venue of the inauguration of Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for a second term in office, on Wednesday.
Obaseki defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the build up to the 2020 election in Edo State. Akeredolu is of the APC.
Obaseki’s defection followed his disqualification to contest for the governorship by the APC screening committee for the election. It was widely believed that Obaseki was deliberately disqualified according to the script written by the former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole. Obaseki eventually won the election on the platform of the PDP.
Also in Akure were Osun State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, his Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti States counterparts – Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun and Kayode Fayemi respectively.
