The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state has picked Adekunle Akinlade as its consensus governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections.
The announcement was made in the early hours of Thursday after a long closed-door meeting of the Ogun West Elders in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government.
Akinlade, 49, is currently a member of the House of Representatives, representing Egbado South and Ipokia Federal constituency.
Speaking after the meeting, the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunmbi, commended the leadership of the senatorial district for reaching a good consensus.
Almost a dozen APC aspirants from Ogun West were interested in succeeding Governor Ibikunle Amosun. They included Speaker of the House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi; Governor Amosun’s Chief of staff, Tolu Odebiyi; the Commissioner for Forestry, Kola Lawal; Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Rotimi Rahmon; Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade; Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade and Abayomi Hunye.
Akinlade had served as the Senior Special Assistant on Taxation and Revenue to State’s Governor Ibikunle Amosun between 2011 and 2014.
