Arrangement has been concluded for the installation of Dr Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land.
Balogun, who emerged after a legal controversy over the elevations of some chiefs to monarchs, will be crowned at the historic Mapo Hall on Friday, March 11,2022.
As part of the last-minute preparations, Governor Seyi Makinde presented Balogun with a Toyota Landcruiser Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) as his official vehicle on Thursday. The vehicle also came with a patrol van that will convey security personnel on the monarch’s entourage.
Ibadan South East Local Government Chairman, Mr Oluwole Alawode, presented the car key to Senator Kola Balogun, the lawmaker representing Oyo South in the Senate and younger brother of the new Olubadan, who received it on behalf of the monarch at his Alarere residence, Ibadan.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to represent President Muhammadu Buhari while governors, top traditional rulers and National Assembly members are expected at the ceremony.
Traders have announced closure of all major markets in the city on Friday in honour of the enthronement of the new Olubadan.
Mapo Hall has been wearing a new look since Tuesday as workmen got busy installing podiums, decorating the hall and demarcating spaces for different classes of guests.
The city is expected to stand still for the coronation of the new king.
