Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has admonished newly promoted chiefs in Ibadan land to uphold the traditional values of the ancient city.
Oba Olakulehin stated this during the promotion of two Mogajis to Balogun chieftaincy line at the weekend.
The new traditional title holders are Chief Adenrele Lekan-Salami, who was promoted from Mogaji Oyetunde to Ajia Balogun, and Chief Adewale Abass Kadiri, who was elevated from Mogaji Olofa Irefin to Jagun Balogun.
Promotion of the two Mogajis, according to the monarch, was done in line with existing vacancies in the Balogun chieftaincy line.
Oluwo of Ibadan land, Chief Wahab Popoola Labosinde, decorated the two chiefs with the traditional Akoko leaves during the promotion ceremony.
Speaking, Oba Olakulehi said Ibadan has rich traditional values and cultural heritage, appealing to the new chiefs not to relegate the rich cultural values and traditions of Ibadan land to the background.
“I congratulate the two of you over your elevation today. You have joined the Balogun chieftaincy line.
“Ibadan has rich traditional values and a strong cultural heritage. I want you to uphold the rich cultural values and traditions in Ibadan land.
“You should remain good ambassadors of our traditional institution. I congratulate both of you once again,” the monarch said.
The event, which held at Olubadan’s palace, Oke Aremo, Iwas attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council among whom were Otun Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko; Otun Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin.
Other dignitaries at the event were Mogajis, Baales, religious leaders, traders, artisans and traditional office holders.
