A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and former chairman of the party in Ondo State, Isaac Kekemeke, on Saturday stated that the party was yet to endorse any candidate including Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is vying for re-election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Friday fixed between July 2 and 25 as the date for the Ondo primary governorship election, urging voters to thoroughly screen the certificates of the candidates of their choice to forestall a recurrence of what happened in Bayelsa State recently.
Kekemeke, who spoke in Akure, said he was ready to accept the decision of the reconciliation committee, adding that he was certain that the panel would consider the interests of all party stakeholders in its decision-making.
He said, “The APC advisory council under the chairmanship of Ali Olanusi will work with the panel to bring genuine reconciliation to the party.
“Everyone who loves the party, young and old, should pursue the path of peace.
“This does not mean that we have supported the second term ambition of Governor Akeredolu.
“This does not necessarily mean that the group has adopted any candidate yet as it is being rumoured in some quarters.
“The division we have in the party is normal. A party is a big forum where interests are pursued so that individuals realise their political dreams.
“So, there is nothing unusual if we have internal tendencies within the party. What is unacceptable is for any individual to allow the minor conflicts to hurt the party as a whole.”
