The crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday assumed a new dimension as the embattled deputy speaker, Mr Iroju Ogundeji, was impeached by the members of the Assembly.
The members, who took the action at the plenary, immediately elected Mr Samuel Aderoboye from Odigbo Constituency 2 as the new deputy speaker.
Ogundeji’s impeachment is coming few days after the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure ordered his reinstatement.
The former deputy speaker, who is the lawmaker representing Odigbo Constituency 1 was impeached over alleged gross misconduct.
The impeachment was sequel to a parliamentary resolution presented by Hon Tomide Akinrogunde, who alleged that Ogundeji’s gross misconduct was inimical to the progress of the House.
The resolution which was signed by 20 members of the House of Assembly was adopted by the lawmakers at plenary, while the lawmakers after deliberations on the petition, unanimously impeached Ogundeji.
The deputy speaker’s earlier suspension was attributed to his stand against the impeachment of the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi.
