One person was reportedly shot dead in in Oshodi area of Lagos State after factions of street urchins, popularly known as area boys, clashed on Wednesday.
The clash continued on Thursday.
The intervention of the police was said to have brought only temporary relief to the area as the clash resumed immediately the police left the area.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who was in Abuja for a security summit, had to return to Lagos to oversee the containment of the clash.
Owoseni was said to have deployed eight patrol vans and Armoured Personnel Carriers to the area on Wednesday night. This led to a stop of the fight.
Shops, houses and vehicles have been vandalised as the clash continues.
