Punch reports that the fight started when the advance team of Oba Ogunwusi, brought his special chair to the front for the meeting and they were allegedly resisted by Oba Aromolaran.
Sources said Oba Aromolaran said the chair could not be positioned at the place where his own seat should be.
Ooni’s ‘Emeses’ (messengers) were said to have told Oba Aromolaran that they were sent by the monarch to put the chair at that spot. The struggle to prevent the chair from occupying the vantage position of the chairman was said to have resulted in the stripping of one of the messengers.
It was gathered that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had been briefed about the incident and the monarchs were invited to the Government House for a meeting to resolve the crisis.
Aromolaran was said to have met with the governor and left shortly before the Ooni arrived in the Government House.
The spokesperson for the Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, when contacted said it was incontrovertible that the Ooni remained the permanent chairman of the council.
He said, “Ooni will not want to be drawn into what happened. But he (Ooni) remains the permanent chairman according to law.”
However, Ooni Ogunwusi was said to have travelled to meet Oba Aromolaran at his palace in Ilesa where he held peace talks with the monarch.
Aromolaran was said to have hailed Ooni for finding time to pay him an unscheduled visit despite what happened earlier.
Sources at the meeting told our correspondent that Owa said Oba Ogunwusi truly demonstrated that he was after the unity of Yoruba Obas with his visit to him.
Oba Aromolaran said, “This is a new dawn. This shows that you are after the unity of Obas in Yorubaland. Your visit is a confirmation of what I have been hearing.”
The monarch said he would join the Ooni on the train which he had put in motion for the unity of the Yoruba race.
Oba Ogunwusi said he was happy that Aromolaran received him warmly despite not informing him that he was coming to visit him.
It will be recalled that Oba Aromolaran had last year at one of the meetings said he was unanimously elected the substantive chairman of the council.
He said he was nominated by the Ataoja of Osogbo and that other monarchs supported the nomination.
However, Oba Aromolaran introduced himself as the vice chairman of the council at the December 2015 meeting which was the maiden meeting attended by the Ooni after his inauguration.
