The National Economic Council has constituted a 10-man working committee to address killings by suspected herdsmen.
The committee is made up of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and nine governors. The governors are those of Kaduna, Zamfara, Taraba, Benue, Adamawa, Edo, Plateau, Oyo, and Ebonyi states. The Vice President is chairman of the committee.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State told State House correspondents after the first NEC meeting of the year ended in Abuja on Thursday that the committee would collaborate with the Federal Government to address “the issues of impunity regarding killings and violence”.
He also said the committee would work to ensure that all those behind the violence and killings are caught and prosecuted.
The council also agreed that the Federal Government would intervene in states hit by a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever.
Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi, said: “It was agreed that the Federal Government is going to intervene very quickly in the case of Ebonyi and Ogun states where this (Lassa fever) epidemic has developed”.
