Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the September 22 governorship election in Osun state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, says he fully understands what the people of the state are grappling with in the prevailing economic realities.
Omisore, an engineer and a two-time senator, who has served the state before as deputy governor, said in a chat, that the state needs an experienced leader like him.
He was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014. He recently joined the SDP and picked its governorship ticket.
Education and mission schools
Omisore stated that part of his education agenda is to return mission schools to the original owners and put up an effective arrangement that will ensure that teachers in such schools do not lose their jobs.
He explained that the move will ensure that students are the major focus of the idea while existing teachers are well taken care of.
Civil servants
He said his first priority will be to boost the morale of the state’s civil servants and teachers who have been demoralized by irregular payment of their salaries.
The SDP candidate promised to pay salaries, pensions and gratuities promptly as the principal part of his human capital development agenda.
Unemployment
According to him, a survey has shown that most graduates and artisans in the state have been jobless in the last eight years because of what he described as poor government policy.
Omisore, who was deputy governor between 1999 and 2003, said he would open up employment for graduates, retrain artisans and employ them through government projects.
“Aside graduates, our auto technicians, carpenters, welders etc that have been jobless in the last eight years will be retrained and offered jobs”, he said.
