With results from Osogbo local government still being awaited, hundreds of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have thronged the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Km 4, Gbongan Road, Osogbo, to celebrate “victory” in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun state.
They sang and danced while security operatives watched.
INEC is yet to declare a winner in the election but results from 29 local governments declare so far put the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the lead with about 12,000 votes.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, is coming closely behind Adeleke. With Osogbo being the most populous local government and the seat of power of the APC administration in the state led by Rauf Aregbesola, the results could dramatically swing victory to Oyetola at the end of the day.
