The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, came out in flying colours at the just concluded Nigeria Polytechnics Games (NIPOGA), held at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
Seven students of the institution won gold medals in Taekwando. The trio of Mohamed Roqeebat, Rasheed Barakat and Badmus Haolat also won the team
gold medal in addition to their individual gold medals. They joined Ogundeji Olaniran, who won an individual gold medal in the same event.
In other events, representatives of the institution also won five
silver medals and six gold medals.
In the 100m event, Babatunde
Ayobami clinched a silver medal for the school, while Adekola Olaitan won three silver medals in the female event of 400m, 800m and 1,500m events.
Ashafa Mustafa won two silver medals in the the male event of 1,500m and
5,000m.
The other event the institution participated in is Judo, where it won two bronze medals.
Welcoming the institution’s representatives back from the games, the Acting Rector, Dr. Woye Olaniran commended the athletes and reiterated his commitment to uplift the standard of the institution in every area.
According to him, the institution will continue to grow in academic, vocational and enterpreneurship training, sports, infrastructural development and moral rehabilitation of the students. He averred that students of the institution always excel in any competition they participated in.
He,however, charged the representatives not to relent in their bid to succeed in both their academic and vocational pursuits.
