A pro-democracy activist Moshood Erubami has urged the Federal Government to come up with actionable and measurable plans for youth development and how to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.
Erubami said this in his reaction to President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Year message to Nigerians.
The activist said as lofty as the promises made by the president are, there is an urgent need to outline specific efforts in form of policies that will be implemented to address the current economic and security challenges. This, he said, will instill hope and generate confidence in citizens that 2021 will be a better year for them.
He said: “ For the promises contained in the President speech to be realized, to give better life to Nigerians in 2021, he must reply the youth and the world on the ENDSARS Protest in Nigeria, with renewed commitment to youth development and realistic and achievable strong measures that are time-bound.
“Also, lack of strong leadership on the part of successive governments have been the bane that kept reversing all efforts that are targeted at doing positive things, making it impossible. The trends must be reversed and seen to being done!
“The year 2020 could be said to be devastating to every one in the areas of the economy, education, effects of corruption and insecurity, hence to reposition the country to be able to achieve positively in these areas will take more than mere restating policy statements but ensure taking accomplishable steps to ward off all the obstacles on the path of achieving glory.”
On Buhari’s Security, Economy and Anti-Corruption (SEA+) agenda, Erubami said government must embrace inclusive governance and offer platform for the masses to hold elected officials accountable for it to be successful.
His words: “Truly Nigeria needs Security, Economy and Anti Corruption agenda (SEA+) as the most priority project model for the rapid development of Nigeria. However, to focus 2021 as year of progress for Nigeria, with the progress of our country in our minds and development of youths potentials, government must embrace inclusive government and mobilize the masses of Nigerians to rise in action to hold our elected representatives accountable.”
