The Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo state has concluded plans to start massive registration of both old and new members across the state.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by Dr Akin Onigbinde (SAN) and former AD Minority Whip in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye.
The statement which was issued on Thursday at the end of an inter-faith prayer meeting at its secretariat in Yemetu, Ibadan, said that the massive registration was aimed at officially bringing together like-minds under the AD platform to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.
It also explained that the massive registration would allow true progressives and those genuinely interested in restoring Oyo State to have a solid platform to actualise the ambition.
It added that the tradition of fulfilling electoral promises and catering for the welfare of the citizenry remained a major credential of true progressives such as the AD.
At the prayer, which was attended by clerics of the three major religions, Pastor Akin Alamu likened the AD to Nehemiah of biblical times and how he rose at the time to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, noting that AD was coming up at a time Oyo State people needed to be rescued.
Also speaking, an Islamic cleric, Alh. Lati Ilorin, maintained that the AD was once loved as the party of the masses and that it would soon return to winning ways since it has not forsaken the culture of prayers and supplications to God with which it has been known since the days of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
In attendance at the prayer were chieftains of the party including former members of the House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly; Prince Debo Gbadebo and a host of others.
