The Oyo State Police Command has called on media practitioners to shun fake news in the interest of nation building.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, stated this while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ),Oyo State chapter, on Tuesday.
She said journalists must promote unity of Nigeria, set agenda that will help in the development of the country rather than publishing stories that can lead to chaos.
Onadeko noted that the achievement recorded so far by the command became possible because she had hardworking officers who are up to the task in making the work successful.
She added that officers of the command will continue to perform their duties professionally and as expected of them, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to the safety of lives and property.
Speaking, the NAWOJ Chairperson in Oyo State, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola, recalled how the command under the leadership of Onadeko has been fighting gender-based violence and worked assiduously through th collaboration with the public to restore peace in the state.
Ajibola stated that men of the command have been of good conduct and professional in their relations with the public.
She said some of the cases NAWOJ has been following showed that the police under the leadership of the first female Commissioner of Police in the state remains outstanding.
The NAWOJ Chairperson assured the command of the association’s support at all times.
She added that widows in the command will benefit from some of the programmes of NAWOJ to make their lives more meaningful.
