Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has revealed his administration’s conclusion to create a unit that will measure performance of civil servants in the state.
The governor disclosed this while addressing civil and public servants at the annual inter-faith thanksgiving service in the state on Wednesday.
Ajimobi said a unit to be known as the Efficiency Unit would be created with a view to rewarding performance and sanctioning poor performance among civil servants in the state.
He said those who fail to measure up in performance would be shown the way out of the civil service while those with good performance oils be adequately rewarded and motivated.
The governor, who commended the civil servants on a general scale for improvement since inception of his administration in 2011, said they have yielded to government’s restructuring. He pointed out that they have improved in attitude and serve delivery.
He lamented the poor performance stage of the civil service at the inception of his administration, saying the restructuring policy has brought improvement to the system.
Ajimobi said a system that does not recognize and reward performance cannot drive development just as he added that a good system was required to revive and sustain the pace-setting credo of the state.
He also disclosed that the state now generates N1.5 billion internally an increase on its previous N1.2 billion.
He described the figure as abysmally low and called on civil and public servants in the state to work harder to generate more revenue for government to be able to discharge its duties to the populace.
“Government cannot function without money. It requires sufficient money to serve the citizenry. I therefore call on you to support the government. The civil service is the engine room of government.
“We must have a system that encourages and rewards performance. The system must also sanction those with poor performance.
If there is no sanction for poor performance, the system cannot be efficient.
We will introduce that system now. Oyo State civil service was best in Nigeria and we must return to that.
“We have created Efficiency unit to do that and promote performance and sanction poor performance.” Ajimobi said.
