As Oyo State government continues to receive encomiums from stakeholders in the education industry over the feat recorded by its candidates in the November/December 2016 NECO O’Level examinations, the All Progressives Congress has stated that the development marked the beginning of manifestation of Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s renewed commitment to restoring the lost glory of the state in all sectors.
The Registrar, National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Charles Uwakwe, said on Tuesday at a press briefing in Minna, that Oyo State ranked second in the performance index of the 36 states and the FCT as 60 per cent of candidates who sat for the 2016 Nov/Dec. 2016 NECO O’Level examination passed in at least five subjects which included Mathematics and English Language. The performance rating of the state was put at 87.67 per cent behind only Ogun State with a narrow margin.
In a statement issued today by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, the APC expressed its delight at the enviable feat recorded by the state urging stakeholders not to rest on their oars until the Pacesetter State is restored to its rightful place as the leader in the provision qualitative education as well as the best brains in all the key sectors of the nation’s economy.
“Like many other informed and discerning minds, we never doubted the ability and determination of Senator Abiola Ajimobi administration to bring all the lost glory of the Pacesetter State particularly as it concerned all the key sectors of the economy. This has manifested in the proper handling of the affairs of the state since 2011 when security, education, social infrastructure, agriculture among others began to receive a facelift.
“Against the expectations of dissidents, the latest sterling performance of candidates from the state who sat for the NECO GCE in 2016 is a pointer to the fact that Sen. Ajimobi’s policies and investment on education in the state are not misplaced priorities or mere window dressing. With the full entrenchment of the new initiative on Public Private Partnership to reposition education in the state, the possibility of Oyo State assuming an unassailable lead in the education industry in no distant future is more than certain.” The Party stated.
While acknowledging the roles played by the state government and its officials in the recorded feat, the APC appreciated teachers and administrators in both the public and private sector in the education industry in the state describing them as worthy partners in progress whose individual and collective contributions would always be cherished.
“Oyo State remains number one among the states where cases of examination malpractices being recorded during external examinations are at the lowest ebb and this implies that brilliant performances by its candidates cannot be a fluke. We therefore give kudos to all those that contributed to the attainment of this lofty goal while we urge them to redouble their efforts to ensure that the state reclaims its number one status in no time.” APC added.
