The leadership of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) in Oyo State, has raised an alarm over an alleged attempt to frame them up and incriminate some prominent members of the union in crimes they did not commit.
The union in a statement signed by Alhaji Abideen Olajide and Alhaji Lateef Opeyemi, which was made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, said despite the proscription of its activities by the state government, its members have remained law-abiding by not engaging in any form of violence but rather abiding with the government’s decision on the union.
They alleged that because of its decision to oppose the insincerity of the state government on the composition of the park management system, some people are keen on framing its leadership up with the killing that never existed.
The union maintained that the alarm became necessary in order not to allow what happened in the state in 2011, where some people were framed up, noting that those involved in framing some members up in 2011 are those appointed by the state government to be in charge of the park management system in the state.
According to the statement, those on the list to be framed include the former Chairman of the union, Alhaji Abideen Olajide a.k.a Ejiogbe; Alhaji Lateef Opeyemi; Alhaji Adeniyi Waidi; Alhaji Adigun Abass and Alhaji Rafiu Olountobi.
Others are Alhaji Adeniyi Tirimisiyu; Alhaji Kasali Ajisafe, Mr. Olalekan Aleshinloye and Mr. Saidi Adigun.
“Ever since the new motor park managers were inaugurated, we have since pulled our vehicles out of motor parks around the state due to series of harassment of our members from the so-called motor park managers who are not allowing our vehicles to load passengers.
“From the feelers available to us, there are plans by some unscrupulous elements to start killing people so that such action can be attributed to us because of the fact that we are against the composition of the motor park management by the state government.
“Let it also be noted that the state government is not sincere about the motor park management system. If truly it was meant to generate revenue, why is the state government not allowing its consultant to handle it. Why the choice of a controversial ex-convict, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a Auxiliary as the chairman Disciplinary Committee of the park managers,” the union said.
