The Oyo State police Command on Monday paraded eight suspected political thugs that unleashed terror in Ibadan on Sunday evening when they attacked Accord Party supporters at a rally in the Bere area of the city.
Two people were confirmed dead after the violent attack.
Addressing the journalists, the state Commissioner of police, Mohammed Musa Katsina said his men were on official assignment when they ran into the thugs unleashing mayhem. They arrested the eight suspected hoodlums during the confrontation.
He said one person died on the spot during the violence while the other, identified as Yusuf Ogeoju a.k.a Ese water, died in hospital where he had been rushed to for treatment.
The police boss then warned politicians and their supporters against disrupting law and order. He sressed that the battle line has been drawn between the command and troublemakers in the state.
In their confessional statement, one of the suspect, Kehinde Emiola, whom some form of charm was found on him said he used the voodoo to protect himself as he was from a Masquerade family.
He denied taking part in the violence, explaining that he had gone to a hospital with his friend, Kazeem Ajibola to visit a sick relative only to be arrested on their way back.
Another suspect, Musibau Akinola said he was coming from where he went to watch football when he was arrested.
According to the police, items recovered from the suspects included one pump action rifle, three live cartridges, charms and other weapons.
The police said they would be charged to court as and when due.
Newspeakonline had reported on Sunday that the Accord Party blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for masterminding the attack, an allegation the APC strongly denied.
