The Oyo state government has slashed salaries and entitlement of all political appointees in the state by 50 per cent owing to the prevailing economic situation.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli made the announcement on Monday at the state secretariat, Ibadan, saying that the new pay regime begins immediately.
He explained that the reduction which was approved at the last cabinet meeting of the state government, did not exclude the state governor as well as his deputy. He said it would include a slash in government’s expense profile and compensation of political appointees.
His words: “The slash in salary is for all political appointees starting from the Governor, Deputy Governor, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Adviser, among others. This was approved by the governor along with his cabinet members at the last executive members meeting. This will also include slash in government expense profile, and compensation of political appointees.”
The SSG expressed hope that the ongoing restructuring, salary review and efforts aimed at blocking loopholes that lead to wastage, would impact positively on the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Alli also informed journalists that state government had almost completed a 10,000 metric tonnes Silo at Oyo town, with plans to replicate same across all the senatorial districts in the state, in order to guarantee food security.
