Oyo State Government has suspended a female student of Jericho High School, Ibadan, for invading the school with thugs and assaulting fellow student and teachers.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, disclosed this on Wednesday, after a meeting with key education stakeholders in Ibadan.
While expressing the state government’s displeasure over the incident, the commissioner explained that the student (names withheld), accompanied by her mother, recently invaded the school with thugs and assaulted a male student, teachers and other parents during a Parent-Teacher Association(PTA) meeting.
He said the mayhem unleashed on the school by the girl, her mother and other accomplices created fear and tension among students and teachers.
Abdu-Raheem vowed that the state government will take further action on the matter, to serve as a deterrent to other “unguided parents and wards.”
The commissioner, however, appealed for calm, emphasising that the current administration in the state has zero tolerance for impunity.
He also charged students, parents and all stakeholders to take advantage of Governor Seyi Makinde’s free qualitative education programmes.
