About 300,000 residents have enrolled on the The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) scheme.
The Executive Secretary (ES) of the agency Dr Sola Akande disclosed this in a chat with Newspeakonline.
The scheme, which was flagged off in 2017, has been a huge success as residents in communities across the state embraced it as a model for personal medical financing.
Akande revealed that enrollees on the scheme are now close to 300,000 with a vast majority renewing their enrollment every year based on their level of satisfaction with the scheme.
He said minor difficulties being encountered by enrollees with hospitals have reduced significantly as the agency scaled up its stakeholder communication mechanisms which has greatly helped in resolving most of the issues that are ordinarily avoidable.
Interested persons who wish to come on the scheme have the options of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) which is for the poor of the poor (free), Standard Plan, Family plan, Top up and Student Plan. The UHC is being funded with the Basic health care Provision Fund.
He said: “The scheme has grown considerably based on the number of individual walk-in,enquiries and organized private sectors joining the scheme.”
Since inception, some states have understudied the OYSHIA scheme and have taken off with success stories. The states are Osun, Adamawa, Kaduna and Ondo.
