The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) has said more communities are being enrolled into the health insurance scheme.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Sola Akande stated this in a recent update.
He said the agency’s design is actually to sustain a health center, adding that for the agency to sustain any health center, it must have 2500 enrollees.
Akande noted that the state governor, Seyi Makinde, promised to enroll 1500 individuals at Ikumapayi and Elebu area of Ibadan, into the scheme as part of activities to mark his third anniversary in office.
“So for Kumapayi that the governor promised to enroll 1000 people, we have met with the community and it was a welcome development. Presently, they are gathering themselves together to make up that number, 2500.
“Same for Elebu. In fact Elebu told us they already have 500 on ground, so what they are looking for is the remaining. That is to assure you that work is ongoing on those facilities.
“Based on community health insurance, we are still meeting with more communities.Come June 30, we will be meeting with Omi-Apata community, to firm up arrangement on how community base health insurance will take root in that community and more communities are joining the train. Like we always say, when you come on board health insurance, you are doing three things at the same time-helping yourself, helping your neighbour, and helping the health system as a whole,” he said
