The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) has said that it had interviewed some doctors that will be working in the primary healthcare centers (PHC) across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Sola Akande, disclosed this while speaking on a radio programme recently.
“We have interviewed some doctors that will be working in our PHCs. We interviewed about 20 of them and I want to assure various communities that are coming on health insurance that there will be a doctor that will be attending to them,” he said.
Akande also stated that the enrollment of pensioners into the scheme is still ongoing, adding that retirees from other organisations such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigerian Defence Academy(NDA) and other federal agencies are also coming on board.
He said the scheme is not only for Oyo State Government workers alone, stressing that anyone who belongs to National Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the state would be welcomed on board.
The Executive Secretary alsoe explained that the community health-based insurance is still ongoing.
“Presently we are empowering one of our communities that have reached 5000 lives, the Ogungbade community are coming on board and from December they will begin to access care. We have started enrolling them and their ID cards will be ready this month,” Akande said.
He added that for community-based health insurance, the agency is in agreement with the Executive Secretary of Primary Healthcare that PHCs would be used like a private facilities that will provide 24 hours services, with doctors attending to enrollees.
“We are also working with Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital to enroll four of their outreach centres across the four local governments in Ogbomoso. They come on our community-based health too. One thing that is sure is that they have full fledged manpower and they will work for 24 hours. We are working with the department of community health of the university to ensure that they come on board which will strengthen and deepen service delivery on the scheme,” Akande stated.
