Professor of political economy and management, Pat Utomi, has added to the voices of lamentation over the current high price of tomatoes in the market.
In an interview with Daily Post on Tuesday, Utomi commented on the scarcity of tomato saying:
“I know its N100 for one tomato. That is a serious situation because people like me need it to avoid cancer.
“It’s a big challenge and of course inflation is on the rise.
“The truth is we have to produce; that is a key thing. We must produce for things to change and we must start by improving on the environment”.
Utomi stressed that Nigeria must produce more, opining that such would go a long way in addressing the nation’s economic problems.
He also said that it is unfair to rate only the current government which is almost one year in office, adding that citizens must also rate their participation in nation building.
His words:
“I don’t think we can deal with one part of government and leave the other parts as well as the numerous stakeholders. It’s a huge collective thing.
“But I think we generally, Nigeria people, should use some more robust conversation about where we are going”.
