The much anticipated visit of world soccer legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimentor, popularly known as “Pele’’, to Nigeria has been postponed.
Organisers of the Winihin Jemide Series (WJS) and Youth Experience Days Africa (YEDA) 2016 legend edition which Pele was expected to be part of, said the event was postponed due to the Brazilian’s ill health.
The organizers had at a news conference on July 16, announced that the Pele would be in Lagos for a two-day programme starting on August 11.
Their statement announcing the postponement read:
“We are sorry that we have to disappoint the many Pele fans and legend of edition supporters at this time who are looking forward to this event.
“As we pray for his speedy and full recovery, we believe that it would be inconsiderate for us to put his health at risk.
“Our ticketing platforms will be offering a full refund on all ticket purchased and a new date for the event will be announced over the course of the next few weeks.
“We hope the new dates will be suitable for everyone.
“The decision to postpone the event did not come easily and we want to express gratitude to sponsors and stakeholders’’
