Grand Council of Yoruba Youths (Agbarijo Egbe Odo), on Thursday, celebrated its 20th anniversary and 135th anniversary of the end of Kiriji war.
The group, comprising of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), converged at Banquet Hall of Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, for the celebration.
The event was dedicated to former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his longstanding contributions to the progress and development of Yoruba land.
Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, represented by Comrade Segun Mayegun, who spoke on the theme, ‘How to make Anambra 2021, Osun and Ekiti 2022, a model for 2023 election,’ said the elections in the three states must be peaceful, free, fair and must conform with global standards.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious ‘Irawo Osan Ti Ile Odu’a’ on Tinubu. The award was received by Mayegun in his behalf. Awards were also presented to notable Yoruba sons and daughters while various cultural groups thrilled the audience with their colourful display.
Speaking, the Aare Apapo (President – General), Grand Council of Yoruba Youths (Agbarijo Egbe Odo), urged all and sundry to always be a good ambassador of the Yoruba race wherever they are.
Dignitaries at the event include Hon Lanre Afinni, Comrade Segun Mayegun; former Vice-President, South West, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN); Comrade Lanleyin Olasunkanmi; former Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Oyejide Salam; Comrade Yaya Abba, who reprsented Comrade Ibrahim Musa, APC Arewa Youth Leader in Lagos State; and Chief Anselem Udoka Echekwu, a.k.a OROBO AREGBE, the BoT Chairman, APC Ndi Igbo, Lagos State, among others.
