Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested four suspects in connection with the death of the national chairman, Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Brig. Gen. Uwem Harold Udokwere.
A three-man armed robbery gang attacked and killed Udokwere at his house in Kubusa area of the FCT on Saturday.
After the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, ordered a probe into the general’s death.
Addressing a press briefing on Monday, Igweh, said two of the suspects are at large.
“At Kabusa and Pigbakasa Apo in FCT, Abuja, Utako Div. Operatives led by CSP Victor O. Godfrey arrested four suspects who robbed and murdered a retired Brigadier General, Gen. Uwen Harold (Retd) N/5575 15th Regular course at House No.9, Sanga Street, Sunshine Homes by Kabusa Junction, Lokogoma FCT, Abuja.
“They are Ibrahim Rabiu ‘m’ 33 years old from Dala LGA Kano State but resident at Rasha Apo Roundabout, Nafiu Jamil ‘m’ 33 years old from Tofa LGA Kano, but resident at Apo Pantekar, Aliyu Abdullahi ‘m’ 47 yrs old from Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State but resident at Apo Roundabout Abuja and Mohammed Nuhu ‘m’ 28 yrs old from Kumbotso LGA Kano State but resident at Apo primary school,” he said.
Igweh further said the knife allegedly used in stabbing the victim was recovered from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police added that the command also arrested kidnappers terrorising the FCT.
He said on May 6, officers acting on intelligence arrested 30-year-old Isa Mohammed, an escapee of Kuje prison break in 2022, and his brother, Nasiru Mohammed, also known as Danger.
Igweh said the suspects are members of the kidnapping syndicate who kidnapped 17 people in an estate in Dei Dei area of the FCT and collected a huge ransom before releasing the victims.
The FCT police boss said several informants and logistics suppliers to kidnappers were arrested, while weapons were also recovered from them.
He said the informants include Sunday Musa, also known as Dan Gwari, 30; Ruqqaya Ibrahim, 41; Musa Idris, aka Dogo, 20; Aminu Ibrahim; Zainnu Abubakar, 30; and Yahaya Abubakar, 20.
Igweh further said on June 18 and 19, operatives of the command attached to Utako and Kubwa Police Divisions, in a joint operation in Agena, Abaji, and Chikara, a town in Kogi State bordering FCT, and arrested Umar Adamu, aka Walejo, 42; and Abdulrahman Abubakar, aka Juli, 35.
“Adamu is a notorious and wanted informant and logistic supplier to bandits.
“He supplies ammunition to kidnappers in Nasarawa, Abuja, Kogi, and Kaduna State. He is also the commander of the Fulani Miyetti vigilante in Abuja,” the police commissioner said.
Igweh said Abubakar was arrested in connection with the kidnap incidents along the Abuja-Lokoja road, where travelling Hummer buses were hijacked and the occupants kidnapped.
The commissioner said the suspects will soon be charged to court.
