Police arrest Mandela’s grandson for raping a minor

A 24-year old grandson of former South African president Nelson Mandela, Mbuso Mandela, has been arrested for raping a 15-year old girl at a restaurant in Greenside, South Africa.

He was reportedly arrested on August 14.

Reports in South African media quoting the victim’s family spokesperson claimed that the girl was raped inside a toilet when she went to use the rest room in the restaurant.

“Just because they have a famous surname, they think they can get away with crime. Children can’t just be raped and then everything is alright. The girl is young and doesn’t even drink,” the spokesperson to South African media.

The family spokesperson also claimed that the alleged rapist’s grandmother, Winnie, intimidated that the father of the raped girl when he first filed charges against the boy and tried to cover the crime.

“Instead, the bodyguard went to the family pretending to be a cop. The father was told there was no need to arrest the suspect but when the father asked to see his badge, he didn’t have one. It turned out he had been sent by Winnie.

“Meanwhile, Winnie Mandela promised to hand him over to the police.

“She also said she will call a press conference. None of the promises has been so far kept,” the spokesperson noted.
