The Nigeria Police Force, Ondo state command, has arrested the man suspected to have killed Adenike Khadijat Oluboyo, the daughter of ex-deputy governor of Ondo state.
The suspect, Adeyemi Alao, was arrested on Monday.
Adenike, 20, was found dead in Alao’s residence on Sunday after she was declared missing. It was speculated that Adenike had died almost six days before her corpse was discovered inside the room of Alao who was said to be her boyfriend.
A source said Alao had made attempts to bury the corpse in his house at Oke-Aro area of Akure having dug a grave in the room, before he was eventually caught.
Adenike, a final year student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko was said to be fond of visiting her ex-lover in Akure and passing the night with him.
There were even speculations that the suspect had plans to use his late girlfriend for rituals.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph said the suspect was arrested by a team of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the state police command.
He said the detained suspect was already giving relevant information to the police on the circumstances that led to Adenike’s death.
The PPRO said the state commissioner of Police will address a press conference after they have concluded their investigations on the matter. He assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated with a view to establishing facts behind the death of the student.
He said the suspect and others who might have been involved in the crime would be prosecuted.
