The police, in collaboration with the men of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the Oke Ogun zone had been combing the forests in search of the abducted men.

A council chairman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, broke the news of their release on Friday night.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the release of the caretaker chairman and his driver.

“The chairman has regained his freedom and reunited with his family,” Fadeyi said.

He, however, did not confirm if a ransom was paid for their release.

The abducted council chief, who was billed for a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde last Monday, was kidnapped, alongside his driver along the Okeho-Ado Awaye Road on Sunday.

The abductors were reported to have demanded N200 million ransom from the families of the victims.
