Some women believed to be loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) this morning barricaded the State Secretariat of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers in the State, ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the place.
The police however flushed them out by firing teargas at them. Reports said passionate appeals to the women to leave the area were ignored, leaving the police with no option than to use force.
Addressing journalists later, the Director of Rochas Campaign Organization, Mr. Iheukwumere Alaribe, condemned the use of tear gas on the women and accused the police of brutalizing the women.
He also accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of plotting to make Imo State ungovernable, even as he stressed that “the APC will not accept any form of intimidation from the PDP”.
