Two armed robbers have been gunned down by men of the Oyo State Police Command in Ibadan.
Armed robbers numbering about eight were said to have stormed Ogbere/Orita-Aperin area around 2am on Friday. But police foiled the robbery.
While parading the bodies of the robbers at Agugu Police Station, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Sam Dan Adegbuyi at Agugu police station, said the robbers numbering about eight stormed Ogbere-Kayinsi and Orita-Merin area and shot at a police sergeant and rob other victims of their valuable properties including mobile phones, money, among others.
Adegbuyi who was represented by the State Police Public Relations Officers, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said:”A distress call was made to the station which resulted in a gun battle with the robbers and two of the robbers were shot dead. These criminal gangs have been responsible for many spate of robbery attacks in many parts of Ibadan until nemesis catch up with them today. This feat achieve today by the police is an indication that this state is not a safe haven for criminals again, therefore they should stay off”.
Items recovered from the suspects according to the police boss includes two locally made pistol, three cutlasses, both live and expended cartridges, and other dangerous weapons.
One of the victims who pleaded anonymity, said the suspects came to their Orita-Merin residence around 2:40am and asked them to open the door or they will be shot dead.
She said: “When we open the door they demanded for our money and phone, claiming that they came to collect their own Christmas gift. They collected my money and gold jewelleries”.
