The Oyo State Police Command has condemned the jungle justice meted out to two suspected armed robbers in Ibadan, on Friday, December 4, 2020.
The police was reacting to an incident, where an angry mob set ablaze two suspected armed robbers at Odo Ona area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
SP. Olugbanga Fadeyi, the Oyo State Police spokesperson, said that the suspects were supposed to have been handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution, to allow dignity in our society.
He said: “Information received from the DPO Oluyole revealed that two hoodlums robbed an Okada rider of his TVS motorcycle at Olomi area of Ibadan and took to their heels.
“Luck eventually ran out on them and they were caught up by other riders who were on their trail at 110 roundabout area of Odo-Ona Ibadan. They descended on them before the arrival of the police and unleash mayhem on them, one ran away, while the other one was beaten to stupor and set ablaze thereafter.”
Fadeyi urged residents of the state to desist from carrying out jungle justice on suspected criminals, adding that the police are always available to listen to their complaints.
