Police in Delta State have recovered 7,565 stolen Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state.
In a statement issued in Warri on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State’s Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu said that the PVCs were stolen from the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
The PPRO said that Mr Shakira Adewale, an INEC employee in Oghara, reported that on February 9, unknown gunmen invaded the office at about 10:38p.m. and carted away 6,000 PVC’s and registers.
“Based on the report, detectives swung into action and apprehended the security guards, Aherebe Godday, Omajemite Justice, and Oyubu Ejiro for interrogation” Kalu said. “Similarly, detectives in a follow-up investigation apprehended one Lucky Aputu, 46, in Onyobulu inland market road, Oghara and allegedly recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him.
“The PVCs had since been handed over to the INEC,”
She added that investigation was still in progress to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
