A policeman has died of coronavirus complications at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The FMC’s Head of Public Relations, Segun Orisajo confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the officer presented himself at the general outpatients department at the FMC on Friday, and died on the same day.
No further details were given on the identity of the officer, whose test result confirming him positive for coronavirus was received on Sunday.
“His body is being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with World Health Organisation’s guidelines.
“All staff who came in contact with the deceased are currently on self-isolation,” the statement said.
The FMC also said five people, including a nurse and another administrative staff of the medical centre, tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), a total of 115 COVID-19 cases have now been recorded in Ogun as of May 9, 2020.
