Roofs blown off, electric installations destroyed, Alaafin’s palace affected
A one-hour rain that started around 5pm Monday afternoon wreaked havoc in Oyo town, destroying property worth millions of naira.
A source who confirmed the incident to Newspeakonline said that the heavy rain blew off the roofs of many buildings at Agunpopo, Owode, Idi-Ose, Isokun, Cele, Adikuta and Adesina areas of ancient town.
Some electricity transformers and cables were badly affected and it is feared that the damage would keep the affected communities in darkness for a long while.
Traffic flow was also disrupted in some parts of the town as electric poles also fell across the roads.
A section of the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo was also affected as a source claimed that water damaged some documents.
