The immediate past chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, has explained why some All Progressives Congress(APC) chieftains in the state dumped the party for Accord Party.
Speaking on Fresh 105.9FM programme, ‘Political Circuit’, on Saturday, Aleshinloye said it is unfortunate that APC has been hijacked by some scavengers.
The ex-ALGON boss noted that himself and other gladiators in the main opposition party were sent packing by the hijackers, whose name he didn’t mention.
Aleshinloye, who had since defected to Accord Party, where he picked the House of Representatives ticket for Oluyole Federal Constituency, said Accord Party has become a progressive party, considering the calibre of people who are current members of the party.
He said the party is full of experienced and serious-minded individuals, whose only focus is on the development of Oyo State.
“It is unfortunate I had to abandon the house I was part. Someone who almost became lifeless without oxygen came to APC, he was welcomed by our leader and was provided with oxygen only for him to hijack the party and chase us out.
“I can tell you authoritatively that 70% of ex-council chairmen and councillors had since dumped the All Progressives Congress for Accord.
“It is unfortunate, the party has been hijacked by some scavengers.
“We need to show them that we are the progressives. They came in and they chased us away, we are waiting to see how the tickets they got would be useful,” he said.
Aleshinloye also tipped a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Accord Party governorship candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, as the next governor of Oyo State.
The ex-ALGON leader explained that Adelabu is a man to look out for in the 2023 election, urging the masses not to be carried away by any deceitful words from the opposition.
“I have not seen anyone except Bayo Adelabu, we are in for a surprise, Adelabu will win the next election.
“We are serious and determined, our aim is to win election and nothing more. We are going into the election with programme and perspectives.
“Some of our members are in APC but if Bayo Adelabu comes out from any party today, these people will vote for him. This time around, I have not seen anyone except Adelabu. This is different from 2019 governorship election,” he said.
