The Senate has confirmed eight Resident Electoral Commissioner nominees (RECs for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Senate rejected the nominee from Niger state and stepped down three other nominees (Lagos, Kebbi and Zamfara states) for further consultation and rejected the nominee from Niger state.
The exercise follows consideration of the remaining twelve REC nominees upon the recommendations of its Committee on INEC which screened a total of 27 nominees as sent to the Senate in March by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Those confirmed include Mrs Asmanu Sani Maikudi (Katsina); Sam Olugbadebo Olumekun (Ondo); Riskuwa Shehu (Sokoto); Kassim Gana Geidam (Yobe); Jibrin Ibrahim Zarewa (Kano); Abdulganiyu Olayinka Raji (Oyo); Samuel Egwu (Kogi); Mike Igini (Delta).
Mustapha Zubairu (Niger) was rejected. Ahmad Bello Mahmud (Zamfara), Mahmud Isah (Kebbi) and Rufus Oloruntoyin Akeju (Lagos) were stepped down.
