The Senate has resolved to probe allegations that its insistence to summon the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, to appear before senators was because a vehicle belonging to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was seized by the service.
The resolution followed a motion on matters of privilege raised by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno).
Ndume said the privileges of senators were breached by the two allegations, which he said were published by some national dailies.
The Senate also resolved to probe an allegation of fake school certificate levelled agianst Senator Dino Melaye.
According to Ndume, former leaders of the National Assembly such as Salisu Buhari, Aminu Bello Masari, Adolphus Wabara, Evens Ewerem and Dimejo Bankole were all investigated when matters like this came up in the past.
Taking Ndume’s prayer, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided, referred the matter to the committee on ethics and privileges to investigate and report back in four weeks
