Sixteen cars, 300 motorcycle, 273 sewing machines, 637 grinding machines, 142 generators, 25 deep freezers, 12 tricycles and 55 spraying wells, were some of the items distributed to the people of Oyo North Senatorial district on Thursday by senator representing them, Senator Abdulfati Buhari.
The district covers 13 local governments spread across Oke Ogun and Ogbomoso.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the All Progressives Congress (APC), senator said:
“It is my covenant to ably represent and do resoundingly well for my constituents through the intervention /constituency projects’ platform provided us by the National Assembly as representatives of the people, who knows the spots where shoes pinch the masses.
“I will use every medium available to me as a Senator to bring dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of my people. In the next couple of years, issues of youth unemployment /empowerment and qualitative education of our pupils will be given priority in order to secure their future”.
Senator Buhari who is the chairman, senate committee on ICT, through his motions in the senate have secured approval for road projects including the hitherto abandoned Ogbomoso- Oyo Road, maintenance of the old road, rehabilitation of Iseyin-Okeho road, as well as securing award letters for Otu Ipapo road, Okeho Iganna road and Agunrege Irawo road
Other achievements include provision of wide area network for Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso; provision of tertiary virtual library for schools of Nursing and midwifery, Kishi; getting approval for School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kishi; providing and equiping Knowledge Access Venue (KAV) ICT for eight schools across the constituency.
Senator Buhari has also provided free medical checkup and drugs to over 10, 000 people of Oke Ogun; trained over 10, 000 women and youths, disbursed N25,000 each to 20 widows and the same amount as bursary awards to 20 indigents students of Oke Ogun.
The deputy governor of the state Chief Alake Adeyemo, who represented the governor of Oyo state Sen Abiola Ajimobi at the occasion said the empowerment programme is unprecedented in the state, wondering if any other lawmaker would be able to match Buhari’s achievement in the last one year.
He said:
“We are proud to have you as our senator , you are projecting the image of our great party and the government ,we are very prioud of you are an intelligent and responsible Senator I wish other people at both state and national house of representatives emulates your gestures and passion towards their people”
The event was attended by APC chieftains in the state, commissioner-nominees, religious leaders, students and members of different communities and associations across the state.
