Following the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, the people of Ibadan are already expecting the installation of the next in line to the throne, the Balogun of Ibadan, Alhaji Saliu Adetunji, as the new Olubadan.
He is expected to be installed after the remains of the late monarch has been interred.
But that move is being challenged by the chiefs of the Seriki line in Ibadan, who have asked the court to stop the installation of a new Olubadan.
There are two chieftaincy lines to the Olubadan – Otun and Balogun. But a third line called Seriki exists but traditionally, the ascension in the line of chiefs terminates at a particular level. But the chiefs, years ago, launched a court case to lay claim to the throne, just like Otun and Balogun.
The head of Seriki line, Chief Adebayo Oyedji, who spoke with journalists earlier today, boasted that he was confident of victory at the court and that he would become the next Olubadan.
Members of the Seriki line are already in court.
