Ten unidentified corpses have been discovered by residents of Lampese/Ibillo, along the Abuja road, in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was learnt that some of the bodies were first discovered by farmers on their way to their farms in the early hours of Tuesday.
The farmers were said to have notified the local vigilante group who combed the area and discovered more bodies.
A resident, Victor Arogunyo, told newsmen that the police and medical personnel from the General Hospital, Ibillo, carried the bodies to the morgue.
He said: “On Tuesday morning, I got a call that our farmers who were going to their farms saw some dead bodies littered on the sides of the road around 7:30am; I rushed there and actually found out that it was true. Immediately, we got in touch with the police and eventually, we found 10 dead bodies.”
Arogunyo said there were no signs of gunshots on the bodies, adding that nobody could recognise the corpses.
“The corpses seem to be fresh because blood was coming out of the mouths of about two or three of them but there were no signs of gunshots because the police tried to check for signs of gunshots, which they couldn’t find. We removed the dead bodies with the police, civil defence and hunters, from the bushes and they have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ibillo,” he added.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident in a terse statement, adding that 10 male bodies were discovered.
“I spoke to the DPO, Ibillo division, and he is going to send us detailed information and the police will react officially. But he said there were 10 male bodies, no females were found,” Nwabuzor said.
