A trial magistrate, Benjamin Seruru, could not believe his eyes last Thursday when a suspect appeared in court wearing clothes he stole from him.
The incident occured in Uganda and was reported by the country’s newspaper, Daily Monitor. According to the newspaper, the suspect was the same man Seruru had released on May 24 having remanded him in prison for a few days for stealing a bag of simsim in November 2018.
The suspect, identified as Jimmy Oteng, allegedly raided the magistrate’s home a day after his release. He had taken advantage of the heavy rain when everyone was at wotk and broke into people’s homes.
At the magistrate’s home, he stole among others things, a suitcase containing four pairs of suits and other clothes, two 20 litre-jerrycans of water which he mistook for coooking oil.
He was arrested last Wednesday when two hunters found him hiding in a bush.
After recovering from the shock, the magistrate ordered that the 34-year-old suspect be remanded in prison till June 11.
