Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, on Wednesday, presented the staff of office to Ogbeleani of Illah Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Obi Slyvester Olisadunkwu Enechaziam Jugai.
Performing the official presentation of staff of office to the new monarch of Illah kingdom, Okowa represented by the deputy governor, Deacon (Barr) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, called on the traditional institution to partner his administration in ensuring better lives for the people.
In his welcome address, the paramount ruler gave thanks to Almighty God, and appreciated the state government ably led by Okowa, promising his kingdom’s resolve to continue aligning and supporting government policies at all times
The Obi promised good leadership for the people of Illah kingdom, adding that he would not deviate in preserving the custom and rich tradition of the town
“I promise to continue to lead Illah kingdom with fear of God, honesty and integrity. Illah has a rich tradition and customs that we have continued to uphold since her existence and will continue to hold same for the good people of Illah and by extension to all humanity,” he said
He called on other chiefs and the Nkpalors of Illah to join hands with him and work for the people and development of the kingdom.
To achieve this objectives, the monarch announced the setting up of a nine-member advisory committee to identify areas of opportunities and work towards the realisation of same for the development of Illah kingdom
“It is in the light of this and with the spirit of galvanising our efforts and ensuring inclusiveness, I already constituted nine-man advisory council for development of Illah Kingdom and harness all opportunities that should accrue to all Illah sons and daughters,” the monarch stated.
Obi Jugai appealed to the state government to establish cottage farms and industries, health centres/ hospitals, and higher institutions in his domain.
Among many notable dignataries that witnessed the historic event include the Executive Chairman, Oshimili North Local Government, Hon. Inncent Esenwezie, Diokpa of the whole Illah, (Ogbe-Obi) Okonwanchi Onyema and other traditional rulers of Oshimili North Local Government.
Others are the Chief Press Secretary to The Executive Governor, Olisa Ifeajika, and Special Assistant to Deputy Governor on Chieftancy Affairs, Mr Olikezie.
