Security operatives have arrested Simon Bebenimibo and Bomboy Oluba, two associates of former militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo).
It was gathered that troops, who had been trailing the militants, stormed their hideout, on Monday.
Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) spokesman Eric Omare confirmed the development saying he was informed that the suspects were still being detained.
However, the Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI), has condemned the manner in which the men were arrested.
According to its Spokesman, Daniel Ezekiel, the military allegedly broke into a member’s home through the roof and arrested him without a court warrant.
His words
“We condemn the military action of breaking through the roof of Simeon Bebenimibo to gain unauthorised access into his privacy without a court warrant to arrest him, as such amount to kidnapping and abduction.
”This is barbaric, obnoxious, unlawful and incivility. The military has no such powers except empowered by a valid court warrant. It is so sad and we are disappointed.”
