The caretaker committee of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West, on Monday announced the suspension of its chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, over alleged negligence of duty.
Seven out of the 12 members of the committee said the decision to suspend Ogungbenro was taken during their meeting held in Ibadan on Monday.
They accused him of failing to call any meeting since he was appointed and vowed never to work with him again.
Those at the meeting where Ogungbenro was removed include Zonal Secretary, Daisi Akintan; Mrs Funmilayo Ogun; Ayobola Fadeyi- Awolowo; Prince Nekan Olateru- Olagbegi; Wahab Owokoniran; Alhaji Mustapha Sikiru and Martins Olu- Abiloye.
They also accused Ogungbenro of not calling any meeting to plan for the Ondo State governorship election which the party lost as well as the bye-elections held in Lagos State which the APC also won.
The group also said the reconciliation committee headed by former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was not known to the party, describing it as a waste of time and exercise in futility.
At the end of the meeting, the members appointed Lere Olayinka, media aide to immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, as the new spokesman of the party in the region.
The meeting was also said to have in attendance Chairmen of the party in Lagos;Ogun; Osun; and Ekiti States- Adedeji Doherty; Sikirulai Ogundele; Sunday Bisi and Chief Bisi Kolawole respectively.
