Stakeholders have emphasised the importance of regional government as Nigerians continue to grapple with high inflation and economic hardship.
Speakers at the 12th Yoruba Youth Leadership Summit, held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the University of Ibadan, condemned those advocating for military takeover and secession.
They noted that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable, adding that parliamentary or regional system of government is good for the country because it is less expensive and allow healthy rivalry among the regions for economic and political relevance.
At the end of the annual summit, beautifully carved Odu’a plaques were presented to individuals who have distinghuised themselves in their various fields.
Yoruba Day is an annual event that brings together eminent personalities from the six geo-politcal zones in the country and the three arms of government–executive, legislature and judiciary. Topical issues are always discussed during the summit.
This year’s event was dedicated to celebrating the 85th and 64th birthdays of legendary thespian, Chief Lere Paimo (MFR), aka Eda Onile-Ola, and first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of the framed portrait drawing of Chief Lere Paimo by Nigeria’s youngest Virtual Artist, 10-year-old Morenikeji Ebunoluwa Joshua.
