A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, says he will defeat Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the election for Oyo South Senatorial District.
Gbolarumi stated this despite not presently having the ticket of any party to contest the election. He expressed confidence that the court would declare him the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He has dragged the party to court, seeking his declaration as the authentic candidate having come second in the primary. The aspirant that came first, Mr Bayo Lawal, had surrendered the ticket which the party handed to Dr Kola Balogun, who defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“He (Ajimobi) can’t win the election,” Gbolarumi said. “I’m going to defeat him with a large margin. Go and write it down.”
He said he is more popular than him in the entire senatorial district which cuts across Ibadan and Ibarapa land.
Gbolarumi, who was the deputy governor during the illegal 11-month administration of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala from 2006 to 2007, described APC’s claim of unparalleled achievements by Ajimobi in the last eight years, as an attempt to hoodwink voters in the next election.
The APC in the state had last week advised opposition parties to show their achievements to the public in their campaigns instead of mudslinging the APC administration in the state. It said Ajimobi’s achievements speak for him and the party, which gave assurance of its success in the next election.
