Governor Kashim Shetimma of Borno State has warned that any first class Emir who refuses to support the All Progressives Congress or grant audience to opposition political parties would be sanctioned.
Some Emirs were said to have received the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the State, Muhammad Imam and former Governor of the state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff recently.
Shettima, who spoke on Friday at the palace of the Emir of Shani, Alhaji Nasiru Shettima Mailafiya, said that he was going to dethrone any traditional ruler who has anything to do with the opposition as his re-election bid is a do or die affair, and he will not take lightly to any act of sabotage, especially from the traditional institution.
An obviously angry Shettima who was not happy with the way he was received in the area was said to have queried the Emir of Shani for receiving the PDP campaign team in his palace.
Reacting, Alhaji Mailafiya said that “as a father, I am under obligation to receive all manner of people, including people of different political persuasions,” maintaining that he has no sympathy for any political party, but is merely living up to his oath of office by being fair and just to all peole.
He observed that traditional institution should not be dragged into unnecessary political controversies, hence his open door policy.
